This funding will support Kids-TALK Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), a program of The Guidance Center, ensuring children in Wayne County who have experienced abuse can access the care they need to heal. As the county’s only CAC and the largest in Michigan, Kids-TALK conducts forensic interviews in coordination with law enforcement, CPS, and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to minimize repeated interviews. Due to growing demand and limited resources, wait times have increased from the three-day standard to an average of 29 days, delaying investigations and access to critical services while creating safety risks. Funding is needed to reduce these delays and expand capacity. Without it, Wayne County will face higher costs across child protection, juvenile justice, and foster care systems—ultimately at the expense of children’s well-being.
