- 6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
- Oakland County will provide a coordinated response in collaboration with non-profit partners and community-based organizations to protect Oakland County residents from experiencing homelessness due to evictions or other life crises and emergencies. Oakland County will create and utilize a prevention model to keep people stably housed that can be replicated and shared with other counties and municipalities in Michigan. Oakland County is requesting $1.6 million to pilot a prevention model that will that prevents families, children, and individuals from becoming homeless by utilizing a scope of prevention interventions in a team-based model. Oakland County will create a curriculum that will be made available to other counties, and municipalities that will model out the infrastructure, partnerships, funding priorities and evaluation, necessary to support people with what they need to prevent homelessness. This would be built around the already established Oakland Connects team and Blueprint to End Homelessness. It incorporates the strategies to support people at all levels in their housing journey.
