- The Michigan Sheriffs' Association is Michigan's oldest law enforcement organization, and has served all 83 of Michigan's sheriffs for more than 146 years. This grant will be used in place of federal funds that are no longer available to train roughly 600 victim services/advocate unit volunteers in sheriffs offices statewide. This training is offered each year through MSA in person at a variety of locations statewide for new volunteers and at a statewide conference for everyone. This training serves the public benefit by providing professionally trained victim services/advocates to those in our state who are grieving as a victim of crime, loss of a loved one, major injury, personal or real property damage, or other form of victimization. These services are offered on scene to survivors and victims and are present with them as the case evolves, offering advice and answers as victims and families deal with sudden loss, shock, and sudden changes they hadn't previously contemplated.
