- This request will expand MMSDC’s statewide mid-stage business growth infrastructure to accelerate job creation, strengthen Michigan’s tax base, and support long-term economic stability for families and communities. As Michigan competes in emerging sectors such as healthcare innovation, applied AI, aerospace, defense, and advanced mobility, growth increasingly depends on the ability of second-stage companies to access capital, technology, and commercialization pathways. Many high-potential firms remain undercapitalized and lack the strategic infrastructure required to scale. Through prior state investment, MMSDC has demonstrated a 41,000% return by supporting business expansion, revenue growth, and job creation across key industries. This $4M investment will scale proven programming to impact approximately 300 Michigan businesses across capital access, technology adoption, commercialization, and market expansion pathways. The expansion will strengthen Michigan’s innovation pipeline by enhancing incubator and accelerator services, launching new Nav/Tech verticals that integrate financial navigation and technology adoption, and expanding the Plug and Play Mobility accelerator into Western Michigan—broadening advanced industry access beyond Southeast Michigan. These initiatives will position high-potential firms to enter and compete in high-growth sectors while reinforcing the resilience of Michigan’s manufacturing, healthcare, mobility, and technology supply chains statewide. By accelerating mid-stage business growth, this initiative directly increases high-quality job creation, strengthens local tax revenues, and improves income stability for Michigan families—contributing to housing affordability and long-term community stability. Each scaled firm generates ripple effects through supply chains, workforce expansion, and regional economic activity. Without expanded public-private partnership, many promising Michigan firms will remain constrained in their ability to compete nationally and globally. With this investment, Michigan positions itself as a national leader in responsible growth, advanced industry competitiveness, and scalable economic opportunity. This legislatively directed investment represents a strategic use of taxpayer dollars to strengthen commercialization pathways, expand high-wage employment, and grow the state’s long-term tax base through sustainable business scale.
