The purpose of this project is to replace aging and unreliable police vehicles with modern, fully equipped patrol and undercover units to enhance emergency response, improve officer safety, and ensure consistent public safety services in Flint Township. As a major commercial and transportation hub with a population that significantly increases during daytime hours, the Township experiences a high volume of calls for service. Reliable vehicles are essential for officers to respond quickly and effectively across a community that includes hundreds of businesses, industrial facilities, and residential areas. Due to long-standing budget constraints, many vehicles in the current fleet have exceeded their intended service life, resulting in increased breakdowns, higher maintenance costs, and reduced availability. These challenges directly impact response times and limit proactive policing efforts, while also placing officers at risk when operating outdated equipment. Replacing these vehicles will restore reliability, improve operational efficiency, and provide officers with modern safety features necessary to perform their duties effectively. The public benefit of this project is immediate and long-lasting. Residents, businesses, and visitors will experience faster response times and enhanced public safety services. Updated undercover vehicles will also strengthen efforts to combat retail crime and protect the Township’s economic base.
