- Creative businesses in Michigan contribute significantly to the state's economy and vibrancy. A 2025 report by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis shows that the arts add $20.5 billion in value to the Michigan economy, employing 144,279 workers with compensation over $11 billion. To keep these businesses competitive and able to attract state visitors and residents, CultureSource will run programs and offer services that allow them to modernize, in particular, the capacity of their digital technology. These programs and services will include technical trainings, seminars for executives, grants for equipment and infrastructure upgrades, and access to learning tools and expert project consultants. As these businesses improve their digital infrastructure and increase their digital offerings, they will increase access to their distinctive and important work, keep their businesses safe and secure, and continue to meet the demands of customers and communities expecting digital connectivity across their creative experiences. They will also be able to create and launch innovative products and experiences that generate new revenue and special recognition. This is an appropriate use of Michigan taxpayer funding because it invests in businesses central to the economic vibrancy of Michigan communities and in mission-based businesses that prioritize public benefit and community engagement in their work. Michigan is known worldwide for its arts, design, and creative businesses. That awareness drives professionals to work in the state and families to live in the state. This investment will make it possible for those businesses to do even more in enabling prosperity in and for Michigan.
