- 6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
- The current lift station pumps are undersized and unable to handle peak wet weather flows, as demonstrated by the August 2023 flooding that resulted in sanitary sewer overflows and basement backups. Replacing and upsizing the pumps is essential to meet NPDES permit requirements, comply with effluent limits, reduce infiltration and inflow (I&I), and maintain water quality standards under the Clean Water Act. The station currently operates with four pumps rated at 2,625 gpm each (about 5.8 cfs). This project will replace them with four new pumps capable of at least 7,180 gpm each (16 cfs), nearly tripling system capacity.
