The City of Romulus requests $3,500,000.00 to execute the full-depth concrete reconstruction of the residential roadway network comprising Taft, Colbert and Oakbrook Streets. Situated in the high-density residential quadrant South of Eureka Road and West of Middlebelt Road, these streets have suffered extensive structural failures. This project will replace the crumbling, end-of-life pavement with high performance, reinforced concrete designed to serve the community and future generations. Funding this project is a direct investment in the safety and economic mobility of Michigan's constituents. The current deterioration of Romulus roads has created a public safety hazard, significantly slowing emergency response times for police, fire and ambulance services, and causing costly vehicle damage for working-class residents. This project is a good use of taxpayer funds because it restores critical access to the regional economic network. Romulus serves as a logistics and transportation hub; Maintaining safe, navigable local roads is essential for the workforce that powers the Detroit Metro Airport region. By mitigating vehicle damage costs for residents and ensuring safe passage for school buses and emergency vehicles, this project delivers an immediate, tangible return on investment for the community's quality of life.
