A safe transit harbor in downtown New Baltimore is a critical investment in both public safety and waterfront economic development, providing boaters on Lake St. Clair and Anchor Bay with reliable public access to the city’s shoreline. The harbor would directly enhance recreation by making downtown more accessible for transient boaters, kayakers, anglers, and day visitors who can safely dock and enjoy waterfront parks, local businesses, and public events. Increased marine traffic also translates into stronger support for nearby businesses, as visiting boaters are more likely to dine, shop, and stay longer in the downtown district establishments. In addition, a harbor complements and strengthens the broader boating network in the region by connecting New Baltimore more effectively with nearby marinas, reinforcing New Baltimore’s role as a destination waterfront community and supporting long-term tourism, recreation, and business growth.
