6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
The Harper Woods Community Center is intended to be a central hub for recreation, education, and community life, giving residents a dedicated indoor space to gather, learn, and stay active. It will support youth and after-school programs, sports and wellness activities, community meetings, workforce development services, and programming for seniors and families. The facility will also provide a permanent home for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, expanding the city’s capacity to deliver consistent, year-round services to the community.
