- Chesterfield Township, home to approximately 47,119 residents along Lake Saint Clair, frequently responds to boat accidents and water-related emergencies. Rapid deployment of our fire boat is critical to protecting lives and property, not only in our township but also in neighboring communities. To improve emergency response, we are requesting funding to construct a boat hoist and dock at the north end of Brandenburg Park, which will allow our fire department to launch vessels quickly and safely. Currently, limited launch facilities cause delays in emergency response, particularly during high-demand periods. Over the past three years, Chesterfield Township has assisted neighboring communities including New Baltimore, Ira Township, Clay Township, and Algonac, highlighting the regional need for improved water emergency infrastructure. Without this project, response times will remain longer than ideal, increasing risk to both residents and visitors. The proposed project includes construction of a boat hoist for rapid vessel launch and retrieval, a dedicated dock for emergency boats, and supporting infrastructure such as secure access points, lighting, and safety equipment. The north end of Brandenburg Park is an ideal location due to township ownership, strategic lake access, and proximity to high-traffic boating areas. This facility will ensure emergency personnel can respond more efficiently and safely to incidents on Lake Saint Clair. The goals of this project are to reduce vessel launch time by an estimated 50%, enhance regional safety by improving our ability to assist neighboring communities, and provide long-term infrastructure to support public safety for decades. Funding this project will save lives, protect property, and strengthen public confidence in safety measures along Lake Saint Clair.
