- The purpose of the requested appropriation is to replace and strengthen aging water utility infrastructure within Barton Hills Village, who is the operator of the public water supply, to improve public safety and reliability. Barton Hills Village currently provides drinking water and fire protection flow to the public through infrastructure that in many areas is over 90 years old. We are seeking to replace fire hydrants, system control gate valves, and upgrade the water tower. This will provide increased public safety through a more reliable fire protection system and the safe delivery of clean drinking water. Replacing aging and broken valves will allow proper control of the flow of water, reducing down time during emergencies while reducing water loss from the system. Barton Hills Village delivers significant local benefits in terms of economic impact and job creation. Barton Hills Village is committed to sourcing Michigan made materials, the East Jordon Foundry as an example, spreading the allocation throughout but within the state. The contractors used at all levels of involvement are all Michigan based, helping to boost the workforce and economy within southeast Michigan.
