Grosse Pointe Robotics and Innovation Center is the result of area robotic coaches recognizing a need for comprehensive engagement and skill development in the area of robotics and innovation among students in the Grosse Pointe community. Drawing upon experience and expertise, the Center aims to provide year-round opportunities for students to excel in STEAM academic skills, with a focus on robotics education and innovation and how it applies to life today and in the future. The robotics programs in the Grosse Pointes have grown in the past few years from three to thirteen teams due to student and community interest. This growth mimics how the field of robotics has experienced remarkable growth and development, fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cutting-edge technologies, and it continues to evolve at an accelerated pace in the 21st century. Multiple interactions with hundreds of community members indicate a strong interest in growing robotics and other innovative programs. Despite the demand, several of the robotics teams in the Grosse Pointes are faced with a pressing challenge: the scarcity of adequate space to support teams in many of the school buildings in which the teams are currently based. Objectives: The key objectives of the Robotics Center include: • Providing a dedicated space for students to engage in robotics education and training outside the traditional classroom setting. • Giving the opportunity for teams to share resources such as tools, volunteers, and instruction for skill development. • Fostering collaboration between students, educators, industry professionals, and the community to advance robotics technology and education. • Promoting STEAM education and interdisciplinary learning through robotics competitions, workshops, and outreach initiatives.
